Armenia – Encounters with a quiet country

I spent twelve days travelling around Armenia. It was a journey full of impressions, encounters and contrasts. From the bustling streets of Yerevan to the lonely mountains in the north, from quiet monasteries to abandoned places where time seems to have stood still. I met people who live hospitality as a matter of course and saw landscapes that appear both rugged and gentle at the same time.

Armenia has a special atmosphere – something authentic and genuine. The country does not reveal itself at first glance, but bit by bit, in the light of early morning, in the dust of the villages, in the eyes of the people.

I was able to capture many facets of this journey in photographs: the vastness of the landscapes, the silence of the lost places, the liveliness of the streets and the closeness to special people and places.

The following galleries are organised according to these themes – a collection of moments that attempt to convey the essence of this country.
